A vented system often will have a boiler somewhere in your home with a cold water tank, typically in the loft.
Unvented system
An unvented system usually has a combi boiler fed directly from your incoming cold water main.

If you are boosting just hot or just cold water, a single Universal pump is recommended. If you want to boost both, then a twin pump either Standard or Universal will be a better solution.
